Hints of Mid-Century – NJ Great Room – NOW & THEN
The homeowners had done a lovely update to the more formal areas of their home but were still left with a small dark den that opened into a rarely used drafty glass atrium. They wanted to create an open and inviting family room that was casual but still stylish. With frequent large family gatherings, there needed to be plenty of seating as well as storage and good television viewing.
Two seating areas offered cozy tv watching and another area for conversation or games as well as three built-in seat benches gave more than enough room for everyone. Grounded by painted wood cabinetry in the seating area, there is abundant storage with room for a work desk that is easily accessibly with a drop-down front. The darker television wall is made light and fresh with floating shelves. The light blue palette feels like the sky is pouring in blending the two areas together. The splashes of red are having fun adding color and whimsy to the room.
